Danny Liston’s Anthology Tribute To The Allman Brothers Band delivered the goods Saturday evening at The Wildey Theatre in Edwardsville, IL. The theater was sold out both Friday and Saturday night. The Roots live broadcast on Saturday evening exceeded every expectation held by our volunteers, donors, and listeners at home.
The upgraded audio quality of the broadcast impressed thousands of Roots listeners. Roots leadership called on our members and corporate donors to step up and finance bringing Andy Coco from Dogtown Records in to produce the sound for our broadcast. Andy and our volunteers built a temporary studio control room in the Wildey event space to house the 32-track audio board, multitrack recorders, and remote control equipment to manage equipment back at The Roots Studio inside the KETC building in Grand Center. Coco ran digital IP cables from the studio to the stage to get feeds from every stage mic. Andy then placed four condenser mics around the theater to capture room acoustics and a capacity crowd.

John Stephens, with Tom and Shirley DeGeres, were the lead donors for the broadcast sound project. Our other key donor was J.F. Electric from Edwardsville, IL, who has supported many of our live broadcasts. Twenty-five Roots members also generously supported this project.

Drea Stein Stein is the newest member of The Roots staff. Drea was a lead volunteer for thirty years at KDHX FM. She left the station, along with many of its volunteers, in disagreement with the station board and paid staff, who eliminated much of their local music and support for the local St. Louis music scene. Drea will continue her active role in Save KDHX and their efforts to restore supporter and volunteer leadership to the station.
Drea will host two programs on The Roots, focusing on local St. Louis musicians and the venues featuring their work. Drea will also play a lead role in our expanding presentation of live music events.
Andy Coco produced our Anthology broadcast feed. He also founded DogtownRecords and Andy Coco’s NOLA Funk and R&B Revue..
Daddy Liston is the host of Uptown And Lowdown, airing at 1 PM and 6 PM Wednesdays on The Roots, The program also “pops up” at various times each week.

ST. LOUIS, MO – Schlafly Brewing has been a part of grassroots St. Louis culture from its inception in December of 1991, and has had a long standing reputation for hosting live local musicians, performing both during signature events and on their brewpub stages at the Bottleworks in Maplewood and the Tap Room in the city of St. Louis. The pandemic sidelined the tradition. Schlafly’s management and staff are excited to bring it back, beginning with regular evening engagements without a cover charge, happy hours, and monthly matinee events featuring live music. There are also plans to begin doing regular ticketed live events in the Tap Room’s Club Room.
Dan Jameson, the new Director of Brewpub Operations said. “It’s been a part of our atmosphere for a long time. We listened to the community, appreciate their love for live music and really feel like it’s time to go for it again. And we sure hope the people will come to support and enjoy it. Andy Coco’s Dogtown Records & Entertainment, a recording and publishing company turned talent broker, will support the initiative by booking and managing the talent relationships. “I’m very excited to be involved in restoring both the idea of a place to go and hear some local music, for both locals and visitors, but that it will have a signature of authenticity in the booking. I’m a huge fan of the history of our music in this city and the Mississippi River Delta region, and am excited to put as much of that on Schlafly’s stages as we can find.” said Coco.
Live local musicians can be heard every Friday at The Tap Room, and every Saturday at the Bottleworks. This Friday, January 26 the series continues at the Tap Room featuring pianist Alexandra Sinclair with singer songwriter Neil C. Luke. Then Saturday the 27th the Bottleworks will host the Kingdom Brothers Duo, featuring Chris Shepherd and Ron Roscowske. Sets begin at 6:30pm and 8pm for these “No Cover Charge / Donations Accepted“ engagements.
“The number one question we get on the phone from guests is ‘will you be having live music tonight?’” says Kara Donsky, Bottleworks general manager. “We have a new menu, regular trivia and game nights, and these wonderful stages in both brewpubs, so we are crazy excited to begin 2024 by bringing live music back regularly on Saturdays at the Bottleworks, and on Fridays over at the Tap Room. And of course, we always have live local music at our signature events, Stout and Oyster Festival, Pig & Whiskey and Art Outside.”
Schlafly’s Stout and Oyster Festival event will move to the Bottleworks and be held on March 8 and 9, 2024, a favorite during which Schlafly brings in and sells out of 40,000 oysters. Shuckers representing the origin of different styles of oysters from the various coasts are also brought in to be on hand to literally shuck their regions’ crop for festival goers, while multiple creative varieties of Stout Beers are also featured.

Kingdom Brothers Duo
Ron Roskowske is the lead guitarist and Chris Shepherd is the lead vocalist of the well known St. Louis Blues band Kingdom Brothers. Together they are The Kingdom Brothers Duo. The pair perform separate from the full band, playing many of the band’s original songs as well as some of their favorite interps that often have an original arrangement to keep the songs exciting and fresh for their fans. These two longtime St. Louis musicians represented their city at the 2018 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN. Ron’s guitar playing and Chris’ vocals are just as amazing in this acoustic performance as they are with the full band. You don’t want to miss a chance to catch these guys in action.

Saturday, November 25, St. Louis’s Dogtown Records will present the “1st Annual FALL FUNK BALL,” featuring performances by recording artists on the label: Giant Quintet, The Service, and special guests, the St. Boogie Brass Band at Off Broadway St. Louis, MO beginning at 7:30pm.
The evening begins with Kranzberg Art Foundation fellow Jonathan Taylor and his Giant Quintet, a band and body of work built during his fellowship. The group features Taylor on keyboard and drums, with Ben Reece on saxophone and woodwinds, Jim Peters on electric guitar, Nathan Hershey on organ and electric piano, and Dogtown Records founder Andy Coco on the Fender bass. With Taylor, Coco has produced and released 3 Giant Quintet singles on the DR imprint, with plans for a full length release in 2024.
St. Louis native Grover Stewart Jr. will return from Chicago to join the GQ on drums and percussion, and will continue the evening anchoring the 2nd act, The Service taking the stage at 8:45pm. He and guitarist Pete Lombardo (who has been serving a deployment in the Air Force bands in Qatar since June) will be welcomed home at this Fall event, re-uniting the original 4 that recorded the “Serve the Groove” LP, and multiple original songs released on Pete Lombardo’s solo effort “New Groove,” also on the DR Imprint. Ben Reece will join as a special guest.
Bringing the Fall Funk Ball to full on party mode, the St. Boogie Brass Band will take the stage at 10:30pm. Led by New Orleans native Sousaphone player Chris “Turtle” Tomlin, the SBBB features the strong horn section and amazing vocal styling of drummer Marvin Bell, and trumpet players Terrell Stringer and Keith Clair.

Hillary Fitz is a Saint Louis-based singer-songwriter who puts her heart into her craft. With a big voice and homegrown guitar and harmonica chops, her style is a fusion that draws from a wide range of musical influences such as soul, rock, blues, and folk music. That said, her passion for music is fully expressed through her songwriting, using original music as a tool for creative expression. For her, writing is a reflection of experiences, memories, and observations. She learned from an early age that songwriting is a powerful tool for making sense of the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the craziness of this world.
Her incredibly talented band takes the songs to new heights. The music takes flight with a rocking rhythm section and soaring melodic soundscapes. Alexandra Sinclair is a St. Louis born-and-raised pianist and vocalist. With influences such as Otis Spann, Champion Jack Dupree, Sippie Wallace, Alberta Hunter and Billy Preston, Alexandra plays piano and sings. Alexandra has performed as a pianist and organist with a wide range of acts including Old Souls Revival, Brother Francis and the Soultones, Grace Basement, Torrey Casey and the Southside Hustle, the Burney Sisters, and more. She tours internationally as organist for Al Holliday and the East Side Rhythm Band. As a soloist, Alexandra has found a home amongst the vibrant history and performs as resident artist in various jazz and blues venues around the area. You can see her around town, driving the Piano Van with Jackson Pianos.
Growing up in the church choir, Alexandra has been singing and playing her way through life. Throughout grade school, she had sung with church and school choirs as well as served as accompanist for her music teachers. When she was fifteen, she began her career playing piano and organ with friends in a blues band and spent weekends playing in bars around St. Louis and Labadie, Missouri. In addition to performing, Alexandra is a music educator at New City School in St. Louis, Missouri.

2:15-3:30pm Matt “Rattlesnake” Lesch Blues Band
Born in 1997 in St. Louis Missouri., Matt “The Rattlesnake” Lesch started playing guitar at the age of 11 and started out playing mostly rock and hard rock. By the age of 12 he took a serious interest in blues and started studying the masters such as Albert King, B.B. King, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. At the age of 16 he was taken in and mentored by local blues legend Big George Brock and quickly became Big George’s lead guitar player. Matt learned the meaning of the blues and where the music came from first hand from a sharecropper out of Grenada, Mississippi. After performing at many national blues festivals across the country with Big George, Matt quickly became a seasoned veteran at an early age.
He has played with national and international artists like Mud Morganfield, Bobby Rush, Kenny Neal and many more. Matt has had his own band since the age of 16 playing all the local blues clubs and festivals in St Louis, Missouri and Illinois. At the age of 18, Matt started attending Webster University as a Jazz Performance major. In October of 2018, Matt released his debut album Furious Strike at the age of 20.
With the ability of an old, seasoned professional, Matt can bring a fierce show to any stage that he plays on. Make no mistake; his young age is far outweighed by his bleeding passion for music. When you see “The Rattlesnake” on stage you can see and feel the intensity of his passion channeling through him and into the crowd.

The Red and Black Brass Band was created in April of 2020 after Ben Kosberg and Dominique Burton took to the street to cheer up the neighborhood. 2.5 million Twitter views later, the band was formed. A dream that had been fueled and talked about for years by the 8 members of this creative ensemble became real and R&BBB has been on the upswing ever since. Born out of a pandemic, the goal was what it will always remain; to bring love and joy through the spirit of music and to help us all remember that we still have much to be grateful for.

After living on both coasts from 2005 to 2012, making music and touring the United States, Cree Rider moved back to his hometown of St. Louis in April 2012. He promptly started the americana/country-influenced Cree Rider Family Band with his then-fiancée and now-wife, Cheryl Wilson Rider.
Cree Rider Family Band is known for their original compositions, as well as an array of country covers. They have two full-length feature albums and an additional album solely dedicated to covering the songs of country songwriter Misisipi Mike Wolf, Cree’s pal and former bandmate.

The Opera Bell Band is an experimental musical-comedy revue based in Saint Louis, MO. Dogtown Records (DR) presents a collaboration of two independent Missouri-based labels and performers featured on the publishers’ rosters. With the three-band event “Sunflower Soul LIVE! A Cross MO Showcase of Soul and Jazz,” DR founder Andy Coco and the founder of Kansas City-based Sunflower Soul Records, Chris Hazelton, begin a state-wide event collaboration to support each others’ funky home-grown sounds!

The event headliner is The Freedom Affair, who will take the stage at 9 p.m., followed by Andy Coco’s Dogtown Records Allstars at 11 p.m.
The Freedom Affair is on the road, carrying their positive message with a powerful big band that features their three lead vocalists, Shon Ruffin, Seyko Groves, and Paula Saunders. The uplifting soulful vibe of The Freedom Affair is led by Sunflower Soul founder and organ master Chris Hazelton, who plays electric bass guitar on this project.

Dogtown Records founder Andy Coco, bassist, producer, and bandleader will present the late-night entertainment with Hammond B3 master Bob Row, drummer Canon DeWeese, and guitarist Pete Lombardo, whose original songs and recordings are featured on the DR Imprint.
